Building on Momentum in Early States, Steyer Campaign Announces Key Super Tuesday Staff

(San Francisco, CA, November 21)  Today, the Steyer presidential campaign is announcing senior staff in Super Tuesday states. This announcement is coming off of a successful debate performance and poll numbers showing his rising support in early states.

Tom’s message is breaking through in the early states where voters get the first say in who will be the Democratic nominee. A recent Quinnipiac poll has Tom at 5%, and he is averaging between 6-8% in Morning Consult’s early state tracking. The campaign is capitalizing off this momentum and building teams in the following Super Tuesday states: Alabama, California, Colorado, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

“We are less than 90 days from the Iowa Caucus and voters are now starting to zero in on the race. Tom’s numbers show that we have momentum heading into these critical next months,” said Campaign Manager Heather Hargreaves. “We have a significant team in California, and are building strong teams in other Super Tuesday states. We intend to play wide and hard.”

These key staffers are:

Alabama
Tania Johns, Political Director

Tania has worked on several campaigns including those of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. She served as the Deputy Campaign Manager on the campaign to elect Mayor Steven L. Reed in Montgomery, Alabama. Tania is also a 2019 alumna of the CBCI Advocacy and Campaign Training Program.

California
Katie Vavao, State Director

Katie has worked with the California Democratic Party, the California State Assembly, and most recently at the Democratic Office of Communications and Outreach. Her extensive field, communications, and public policy expertise, and her deep understanding of the political terrain in the state are tremendous assets to the Steyer campaign.

Colorado
Tanya Nathan, State Director

Tanya was born and raised in Denver, CO, and attended the University of Denver. Tanya was a part of the hard working team in 2016 that ensured Colorado went blue, and looks forward to doing the same in 2020. She believes that a campaign’s heart is in the field, and believes nothing can replace a face to face conversation on the doors.

North Carolina
Bryant Graham, Organizing Director

Bryant has devoted his career to social and economic justice issues. He was born in Brooklyn New York and comes from a family of union workers and civil rights advocates. He believes that every American no matter what race or creed deserves a second chance, universal healthcare, free school lunch, and the right to vote.

Tennessee
Tequila Johnson, State Director

Tequila is an award-winning community organizer and strategist whose work focuses on creating equality and increasing civic engagement among black Americans and other communities of color. She has been featured in The New York Times and The Washington Post, and on CNN, MSNBC, and other outlets around the country.
