GOP challenger says Trump is a traitor for asking Ukraine and China to investigate Bidens

By Devan Cole, CNN

(CNN) — Former GOP Rep. Joe Walsh, a longshot candidate for the Republican nomination for president, on Sunday called President Donald Trump a “traitor” for asking Ukraine and China to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, and again argued Trump should be impeached for asking other countries to “interfere in our election.”

“There’s enough we know now to vote to impeach this President. He stood on the White House lawn this week, Jake, and told two additional foreign governments to interfere in our election. That alone is impeachable. This is a strong term I’m going to use. But I’m going to say it on purpose: Donald Trump is a traitor,” Walsh, who represented Illinois, told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union.”

The strong comments from the former Republican congressman come as Trump faces a widening impeachment inquiry in the House of Representatives. Most current congressional Republicans have remained silent and declined to speak out in opposition to the President’s comments last week that he wants both Ukraine and China to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. Walsh had previously said he supports Trump’s impeachment and said again on Sunday that congressional Republicans should also “get behind” it.

There is no evidence of wrongdoing by either Joe or Hunter Biden.

Walsh told Tapper that he is “not accusing this President of treason,” but he said Trump has betrayed the nation.

“Our founders were very specific as to what treason is. But when you look at traitor more broadly defined, this President betrayed our country again this week,” Walsh said.

During a contentious exchange with Walsh on the same program, former Republican Rep. Mark Sanford, who is also seeking his party’s 2020 presidential nomination in a longshot bid, disagreed with Walsh’s steadfast support of impeachment, saying that “the nature of a process is not to come to the conclusion at the beginning of it.”

“I do think we ought to be incremental. Are there very troubling charges out there? Yes. Do they need to be investigated? Yes. But to jump to conclusion and say (Trump) needs to be impeached, what he’s done is treasonous, is to say we’re not going to go through the very process that the founding fathers laid out,” said Sanford, who represented South Carolina.

Sanford, pressed by Walsh on whether Trump’s actions warrant impeachment, said their thoughts are “irrelevant to the process that’s at play” and that they have to look at the “costs” of the impeachment process, which he said includes a shift in focus from the 2020 election to the impeachment process.

House Democrats are pressing forward with the impeachment inquiry centered on Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and on Friday issued a subpoena to the White House and a documents request to Vice President Mike Pence.

Trump has faced limited criticism from members of his own party, but a rebuke from Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah on Trump’s call for the other countries to investigate drew a crude attack from the President on Saturday.

Among the congressional Republicans who have declined to say whether Trump’s actions were appropriate is Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, the top Republican on the House Oversight Committee.

In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos Sunday on “This Week,” Jordan dodged questions about the appropriateness of Trump’s comments last week and instead said Trump’s tense relationship with China is evidence of the fact that he wouldn’t seriously ask the country to investigate the Bidens.

Trump insults Mitt Romney after Republican senator’s tough criticism of President

By Clare Foran and Veronica Stracqualursi, CNN

(CNN) — President Donald Trump lashed out at Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah Saturday after Romney rebuked him for calling on Ukraine and China to investigate the family of former Vice President Joe Biden.

In a crude attack against a sitting senator from his own party, Trump tweeted, “Mitt Romney never knew how to win. He is a pompous ‘ass’ who has been fighting me from the beginning, except when he begged me for my endorsement for his Senate run (I gave it to him), and when he begged me to be Secretary of State (I didn’t give it to him). He is so bad for R’s!”

Trump’s attack comes as he faces a widening impeachment inquiry in the House of Representatives. Most congressional Republicans have remained silent and declined to speak out in opposition to the President’s comments on Thursday that he wants both Ukraine and China to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. But Romney criticized the President in a statement Friday, saying, “By all appearances, the President’s brazen and unprecedented appeal to China and to Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden is wrong and appalling.”

There is no evidence of wrongdoing by either Joe or Hunter Biden.

Romney also said, “When the only American citizen President Trump singles out for China’s investigation is his political opponent in the midst of the Democratic nomination process, it strains credulity to suggest that it is anything other than politically motivated.” CNN has reached out to Romney’s office for response to the President’s tweet.

Trump on Saturday did not take aim at Republican Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska, who also pushed back on the China comments and has been an occasional critic of the President.

In a statement to the Omaha World-Herald, Sasse said, “Hold up: Americans don’t look to Chinese commies for the truth,” adding, “If the Biden kid broke laws by selling his name to Beijing, that’s a matter for American courts, not communist tyrants running torture camps.”

Sasse also criticized House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California, saying, “Congressman Schiff is running a partisan clown show in the House — that’s his right because the Constitution doesn’t prohibit clown shows, but fortunately, in the Senate, we’re working to follow the facts one step at a time.”

Republican Rep. Will Hurd of Texas, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, also reacted critically to Trump’s call for China to investigate the Bidens.

“I think it’s terrible. It’s something that I wouldn’t have done,” Hurd told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota on “New Day” on Friday. “China is an adversary …. We are in a tight and complex trade negotiation with China now, and so you are potentially giving them something to hold over your head … So, I think that is something that a President of the United States shouldn’t be doing.”

The President’s suggestion was met with fierce criticism from congressional Democrats as they forge ahead with a House impeachment inquiry against the President, which was triggered by a whistleblower complaint alleging that the President pressured Ukraine to solicit interference in the upcoming 2020 presidential election.

While Democrats investigate the complaint, a number of congressional Republicans have sought to undermine the credibility of the whistleblower by arguing that the complaint amounts to “hearsay.”

This story has been updated with additional developments Saturday.

Jackie Aina: Taking the Black Beauty Community by Storm

Jackie Aina is a true vet when it comes to this YouTube era, she started 10 years ago when YouTube was still a new platform. This was before YouTubers were making millions of dollars or collaborating with large brands, especially black beauty content creators. Throughout the years, the money, the fans and overall clout she’s accumulated she still is her authentic self; and speaks up for women of color any chance she gets. This, along with many others, are reasons why we will always love Auntie Jackie.

Jackie has worked with many brands before, whether they are sponsoring her videos or she has a limited edition collection with them. From Too Faced, Anastasia Beverly Hills (ABH), Beauty Bakerie, Uoama Beauty, Artist Coutur and others, the list goes on and on.

Now Jackie has gotten together with Norvina of ABH and came out with her very own 14 shade palette. Not only is this palette amazing quality, which we expect nothing less from ABH, but pretty much every color in this palette can be used on black women and look amazing. Which is huge, because even though ABH has never counted black women out, they’ve also never come out with a product that can really cater to them.

I am sold, we all were in fact, her palette sold out on it’s first day and it sold out a couple more times after that. It’s launch was back in August 2019, but the palette is still selling off the shelves of Ultas, Sephoras and online stores. Jackie made a name for herself by speaking when others didn’t, couldn’t or wouldn’t. She really tries her best to make sure everyone is seen and heard in the beauty industry, shining a light on tones and shades that others would steer away from.

Auntie Jackie has shown us throughout the years that being black is beautiful, and we should bask in it not hide from it. She has also shown us that you can have it all, success, love and happiness. She tells us not to put a time limit on our goals and dreams, and encourages us to work hard and start somewhere like how she did 10 years ago. Hopefully we see another collab from Jackie and another brand sometime soon, this quality and shade range doesn’t come around very often. Nonetheless, I think it’s safe to say we are all proud of Auntie Jackie and if it wasn’t made aware already, never forget this: don’t stop chasing your dreams, even when it seems easier to just quit.

Black-Owned Business Attracts Customers from all over the World

Music City is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing tourist cities in the world. People coming from across the country for their bachelorette parties and more recently, more than 600,000 people flooded Nashville for the NFL Draft. The profile of Nashville is steadily on the rise. “New Nashville” is how many locals refer to this growth and boost in tourism, but what if we could retain some of the feel and taste of “old” Nashville, especially in the Black communities here?

Black restaurants like Swett’s, Prince’s and Silver Sands are names everyone recognizes if you are from Nashville or have lived here long enough to travel beyond the Gulch, 12South, and Germantown. Their names have local prominence and provide an authentic Nashville experience. While the profile of Nashville keeps expanding, there is one popular place that is growing larger and larger every day while continuing to keep their sense of community. That place, you may ask, is Slim and Husky’s Pizza Beeria.

“We have been on CBS World News, USA Today did something on us, Pickler and Ben talk show, Food Paradise on Travel Channel and Good Morning America.” Said Nashville native Clint Gray III, one of the owners of Slim & Husky’s.

The trio started Slim and Husky’s just a few years ago and ever since they first opened their doors on Buchanan Street, people have been coming to get their pizza by the droves, bringing them tons of attention. They crafted their recipe for success while carefully crafting their tasty pizzas, but the vision of where they needed to start their business and what they wanted to be was given to them in one random trip.

“We looked at a lot of different areas in Nashville originally and some of those areas were affluent areas and very popular. Then we took a trip to Harlem randomly and we got a chance to witness Black businesses in neighborhoods and when we got back home, we decided we wanted to put our store in a place we felt was underserved and in North Nashville, Buchanan was that street that we chose. We wanted to bring that livelihood back.”

Of course, their decision was met with some criticism at first.

“People said we were crazy to open it up because of crime there and because there wasn’t much going on. It wasn’t looked upon as a great idea, but we had faith that we would create an atmosphere that could revitalize that community.”

Flash forward to now and allure of Slim and Husky’s in North Nashville has brought people from all over the place to them, making intentional visits to Buchanan Street to visit their first location, which has a unique brand of hip-hop flavor and pizza.

“We have had people from all over. Everywhere from Alaska to New Zealand. That’s one of the best experiences to speak to someone that is visiting Nashville from another country that stops in to see us. I think the story with CBS News really put us in the global eye and people saw that from all over the world and some of the people have come to check us out.”

As for the media love, Clint was humble yet realizes the responsibility of what they are doing.

“It’s a very humbling feeling and we are just appreciative that the media believes in our concept from pizza to community. It’s a very humbling responsibility and it creates a sense of responsibility to continue to be creative and a sense of integrity to grow our business. “

Above the visits and fame, the biggest thing Slim & Husky’s has done is started a movement. Following Slim & Husky’s move to Buchanan Street, Minerva Avenue Cocktail Bar has moved in on Buchanan Street and soon Willie B’s Daiquiri bar. But in true humble fashion, they don’t want to be credited for the movement, but only see it has them being rooted where they were supposed to start.

“We are excited about that growth and excited about the businesses that are already here and the ones that are coming to the area that benefit the community. We really don’t stake our claim to starting all that growth. We just like to say we planted a seed and we are happy to see the growth. People can shop in their own neighborhood, walk down the street and get employment in their own neighborhoods. We hope that the other businesses take the same approach so that communities can be self-sufficient and continue to grow internally.”

As a result of the popularity of Slim & Husky’s, they have expanded to Atlanta, where they have one location and another one on the way and will be expanding to Memphis as well. Along with those two new cities, there will be a third one coming to Nashville and it will be in a very special location, 5th and Broadway. For those that are not aware, this location will be in the same complex as the National Museum of African-American Music, which opens in 2020.

“We are going to be in the same complex as the National Museum of African-American Music on 5th and Broadway in Nashville and we have an official partnership with them. We have some things in the works.“

Slim & Husky’s could eventually be coming to a city near you, but as far as their staple in the North Nashville community and the chance they took on Buchanan Street, they have now entrenched themselves in Nashville as the Founding Fathers of the new Buchanan Street. Along with those slices of pizza, they are also serving up life, community, and love while making a difference.

TSU Falls In First OVC Matchup

0

Richmond, KY – The Tennessee State Tigers got off to a sluggish start and turned the ball of 3 times in a 42-16 defeat to the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, at Royy Kidd stadium on Saturday. The Tigers now fall to (1-4), overall and (0-1) in conference play.

The Tigers continue, to struggle on defense as they gave up (525) yards of total offense. (379) of those total yards came on the ground as the colonels, ran all over the Tennessee state defense. The Tigers allowed both EKU running backs Daryl McCleskey Jr, and Alonzo Booth to go for over a hundred yards a piece. The Tigers, poor play on defense has them ranked dead last at 9th in the Ohio Valley Conference.

The TSU offense, also struggled getting things going on Saturday. The Tiger, Offense came into the game ranked first in the OVC, in total offense and 19th nationally averaging (462.0) yards per game. The first half was one to forget for the Tigers as they were held scoreless struggling to run or pass the ball. It wasn’t till later in the second half, that the Tiger offense found some life from a spark provided by senior running back Seth Rowland on back-to-back runs of 25,10, and 8. Two plays later the drive was capped off by 5 yard touchdown run by Takendrick Roberson. The Tigers finished with (382.0) yards of offense.

Although, the Tigers loss there were a few high points in the game for TSU individually. Ronnie Killings and Josh Green both posted career high in tackles with nine each. Antonio Zita has continued his outstanding play on special teams this season, connecting on three field goals (26,35,36).

The Tigers will be back in action this Saturday October 7th, at Burgess-Snow field, In Jacksonville, AL against the ranked Jacksonville State Gamecocks.

Hope of the Titans

0

Nashville, TN – Coming off of a well needed victory against the high powered Atlanta Falcons, the Tennessee Titans and their fans, have hope again. Starting the season with a 1-2 record and two straight loses against divisional opponents, many wondered would this be another disappointing season.

Tennessee is last in their division right now, but the season is still young. Titan’s fan, Armon Bell said, “We [The Titans] will make the playoffs this year.” He continued, “Our defense is top 10 in the league and we can stop anyone, Titan Up!”

There is great reason to have this newly found optimism. Rival Jacksonville Jaguars, are down to their back up quarterback for the rest of the season, and the heart of their Defense All-Pro corner Jaylen Ramsey, is away from the team. The turmoil in Jacksonville has fans feeling good.

The Colts, who Tennessee always struggles with, are also down to their back up quarterback and injuries began to attack their defense.

Rival Houston Texans are still a formidable opponent to Tennessee’s hopes but they currently are having troubles protecting their franchise player, Deashun Watson. The issues and adversities of all their conference rivals, has fans like Elijah Williams salivating at the fact that Titans can start from the bottom and reach the top, “ Tennessee is going to be straight, everyone is struggling,” said Williams. “Trust me later in December and January, our theme song will be Drake, Started From the Bottom.”

The Titans have only played two divisional games and have four more to go. If they can win out, Tennessee can be at the top of the AFC South. The rest of the schedule doesn’t seem to be tough. According to ESPN’s Bpi and Vegas, The Titans are favorite in 10 out of 12 of their upcoming games. With That being said The Tennessee Titans hopes are sky high for the rest of this NFL season.
