NASHVILLE, TENN. — From September 3 through October 10, 2021, the Belcourt Theatre presents Heist!, a 16-film series that includes classics, recent, and unexpected selections from one of cinema’s most loved and pervasive genres. With films that span from 1955 to 2019, the series also includes four films that will be shown on rarely-screened 35-millimeter film prints.
Tickets are now on sale for all films in Heist! series, as well as full series passes. Passes are $112 ($80 for Belcourt members) and provide one (1) ticket to each film in the series.
“Every year around this time we attempt to conjure up a fitting way to bid adieu to the dog days of summer,” said Zack Hall, education and programming associate at the Belcourt. “What better way to celebrate the joy of going to the movies again than to bring an amazing collection of films that define and push the boundaries of such a tonally rich genre as the heist film?
“There truly is something for everyone here: the first feature from master animator Hayao Miyazaki, Christopher Nolan’s mind-bendingly surreal dreams within dreams within dreams sci-if blockbuster, a story ripped from the headlines that pits sex workers against white collar criminals, a throwback fun-for-the-whole-family song-filled featuring the muppets and our dearly departed Dame Diana Rigg and Charles Grodin, career-defining performances by some of our greatest actors and whizz-bang directing by a handful of impressive filmmakers inspired by the incredible lineage of heist films they grew up watching.”
Special thanks for assistance in programming Heist! to: Jack Durwood (Paramount), Kristie Nakamura (Warner Bros.), Chris Chouinard (Park Circus), Neil Calderone (Chicago Cinema Society), Eitan Frysh (Resurgence Media), Ryan Kane and Chance Huskey (GKids), Brian Darwas (Atomichotrods), Eric Di Bernardo (Rialto Pictures), David Jennings (Sony Pictures), Frank Viadero (STX), Randy Andrews (Swank Motion Pictures), Jason Jackowski (Universal).
