Nashville, Tenn. – Jordan Maynard, a 16-year-old high school sophomore, has come to age in a country that remains divided by racism. The teenager wanted to find a way to express the fact that all people are part of one race. Inspired by Africa being the cradle of civilization, he decided to start a clothing line that uses the image of that continent in unique and expressive ways. This is how Genesis Stylez was born.
“When I thought about all the issues we have with race in America, it made me think that everyone should be aware that all humans have the common ancestry of Africa,” explained Jordan. “The name of the company was inspired by Genesis 1:27 ‘So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.’”
Genesis Stylez offers t-shirts and hoodies that are designed with style and comfort in mind. While the goal is to use the brand to help the divide we see in society, it was also important to Jordan to make clothes that people would want to wear.
The company’s first line of t-shirts presents the flag of the United States superimposed over Africa. The image is both powerful and fashionable and will be a conversation piece for anyone who lays their eyes on it. Jordan is very excited about giving people the chance to express the communality of all humans. “When you buy one of our shirts, you declare with us, that we are all one people,” he said.
